Evan Henshaw-Plath, known as “Rabble”, is a pioneering technologist and activist renowned for their work in social media and decentralized technologies. Rabble has spent decades building social technologies and community organizing apps, including working at Odeo, the company that pivoted to become Twitter. There they were the social app’s first employee and de facto CTO until late 2006.
Most recently, Rabble’s company, Verse Communications, a public benefit corporation, has released nos.social, a decentralized social media app using the Nostr protocol.
As a former researcher at the MIT Media Lab’s Center for Civic Media, and an Edmund Hillary Fellow, Rabble combines technical expertise with a passion for political organizing and social justice. They envision a future where everyone has access to authentic, private online communities built on care, connection, and sustainable relationships.
Rabble currently lives in Wellington, New Zealand, and is working with the Verse team to build the next generation of decentralized community apps that can empower people to organize and create positive social change.
